Weather Station
About the Station
Since August 2023, I have been running a small private weather station in Hanau, Germany. It provides basic readings such as temperature, air pressure, wind speed, humidity, and precipitation. The station is located in a densely built-up area in northern Hanau (approximate position: 50.15°N, 8.91°E). Measurements may therefore be slightly skewed by heat radiation and wind effects from surrounding buildings — but that's precisely the appeal of getting the most realistic readings possible right at your doorstep.
Hardware and Software
The station uses a Froggit WH 3000 weather station, which transmits data to a Weewx client running on the local network. Data is processed every 5 minutes and uploaded to the web server.
Notes
All data is provided without any warranty. For official weather data, I recommend the DWD (German Weather Service). Unfortunately they have no station in Hanau, but there are stations in Offenbach Wetterpark (approx. 10 km away) and Kahl am Main (also approx. 10 km).
The Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology also operates an air quality monitoring station in downtown Hanau — about 2 km from my station — which in addition to pollutant concentrations also provides temperature, air pressure, and humidity readings.
